Christmas Angels is a hack! It was born out of an idea that a pioneer minister and friend of ours had come up with called advent angels. We loved the concept and decided to see if we could build on it. And so Christmas Angels was born!

Knitting has been around for centuries and can be done by all ages.  Our angels can be made at little cost and adapted easily to create unique knitted messengers.

When we had our first 1000 angels, we needed to do something with them.  We decided that Yarn Bombing would be a great way to send this messengers out to bring unexpected words to those who found them.

Since the first angels took flight in 2015 100,000s of angels have gone out all across the world. For a while we tried to keep track of how many but eventually it became too difficult to count them all.

The purpose of Christmas Angels was to share something of the Christmas story and to bless the community in public places and community spaces as simply as possible. The process has three steps and can be done by an individual or by whole groups of people.

1. Knit angels.
2. Attach a tag.
3. Leave them for others to find.

You can find the different angel patterns at the bottom of this page along with example tags. Everything is free to use and you are welcome to adapt and change this idea as you see fit. This project is for everyone and anyone. It was created by Beachcomber and supported by the North Shields and Whitley Bay Methodist Circuit supported by the Newcastle Methodist District in its first year and since then it continues to flourish.

#XmasAngels sending love to #Glasgow. Make the small things count.

As I walked on with my angel in my hand I turned the label over which read ” Don’t give up” it really felt like a message from her. I finished my walk in tears and my lovely angel is now hanging on my tree.

Thank you whoever gave us a Christmas Angel. A lovely surprise this morning #xmasangels

Thank you so much for all the beautiful Angels that you left in Seaton Delaval.

I knitted just one angel for a special little boy, who was taken into hospital just before Christmas. I felt called to knit one for him on Christmas Eve and after a difficult week, and much prayer, he was allowed home this morning. God is good. Thank you for the idea x

Just given 2 angels to a family... they lost their son this morning...a pink one for his sister and a blue so she can place it with him... truly humbled...thankyou to everyone who has been part of this.
